Fishing Derby!

This Saturday, JD and Wyatt took part in the Plainfield Fishing Derby. They both had a wonderful time at the Derby and both of them caught fish. In fact, both of them took home trophies! Wyatt won first place and JD won 2nd place!

The boys were in separate age groups. Wyatt’s fish was 11 1/4 inches and JD’s fish was 10 3/4 inches.

The boys used worms, power bait, bobbers, and sinkers while they fished. However, apparently, it was a bit crowded and cramped so Papa did the casting and the boys reeled in the line and tried to hook the fish.

Wyatt tells us that there were 20 to 30 or even 40 people in his group. I made the editorial decision to settle on their being simply a LOT of people in his group rather than put a number on it. We’re told that there may have been 100 people at the derby, so he might not be far off.

Wyatt tells us that it took him 7 tries to catch his fish. He says that when he got the little bugger, it was flopping around, flop, flop, flop. JD actually got wicked lucky. Right before the whistle was blown, he hooked a fish and since he had it on the line before the whistle, they allowed him to bring it in; and he did!

After the fishing was done, they announced the winners. Wyatt was eating his lunch while the announcements were ongoing. He was all but certain that he wasn’t going to win anything. So, he was working on eating his hot dogs, chips and chocolate milk when they announced that he had won. Upon hearing the announcement, he jumped up and got his trophy and held it above his head in victory!

Following the Fishing Derby, both boys enjoyed a much-deserved ice cream cone. Wyatt’s ice cream was Maple and Black Raspberry twist and JD had a Black Raspberry iced cream. Both boys had rainbow sprinkles on their ice cream, as is only proper. A perfect way to wrap up a fine day of fishing.
